Basic Rules of Token Cards (May 8, 2026)

What is a Token Card?

A Token card is a type of card that is played from outside the game.
It cannot be built into a player's deck, and is placed separately from the deck/Digi-Egg decks.

For example, in the case of this [Pipe Fox] Token, it is played from outside the game by the effects of either [BT19-040 Sakuyamon] or [ST22-05 Sakuyamon ACE].

Blank Tokens

A Blank Token is a type of Token card where you can fill out the information on the card yourself.
They are used in the same way as normal Token cards, however, in order to use them, you must have filled out all the information required for play (this being: Name, Play Cost, Lv., Color, Trait, DP, Effect). (If you don't intend on using Token cards, it is not required to fill them out.)
The information required to be filled out on a Token card is shown below. You cannot fill out any information other than the info shown in red below.

Token Cards: Sleeves

Please be aware that the rules regarding sleeves differ slightly to sleeve rules for the deck/ Digi-Egg decks.

Token Cards: Sleeve Rules
You may freely choose whether to use sleeves or not. Sleeves are not required for token cards.
When using sleeves on Token cards, make sure that they: have the same design, have the same number of sleeves, and are sleeved in the same order. Also, Token card sleeves must be of a different design to your deck/ Digi-Egg deck card sleeves, so they can be easily distinguished from them.
Token Cards: Number of Sleeves
For each card, you may use up to 2 sleeves.
Please make sure the front of the card can be seen and is not obscured.
Whether you sleeve the Token Cards from the top or bottom is up to you. The direction of sleeving doesn't have to be the same for every Token Card.
You may not put 2 cards together within the same sleeve[s] (e.g. to fill the rest of the sleeve out when using a paper printed Token Card).
Token Cards: Number of Sleeves
Token Cards: Sleeve Design
When using sleeves you must make sure that the back of at least one of the sleeves is opaque.
You cannot use sleeves that have some sort of design printed on the transparent side. (Embossed sleeves or sleeves with a matte finish are not included as having a design, and therefore are OK to use.)
Transparent sleeves that have designs (as in the image on the right) cannot be used (even if the design is on the back).

How to Use Token Cards

Game Preparation

Before starting the game, while you are preparing your deck/ Digi-Egg deck, make sure to prepare all the Token Cards you will need and place them outside the game area (where your opponent can see them).
When using Token Cards, in order to have a smoother play experience, you may tell the opponent about your Token Deck. However, you do not need to tell your opponent what cards they are, nor the effects or information on them. (Telling your opponent about your Token Deck is optional to begin with)

Q&A

When preparing for the game, what kind of information do I have to let my opponent know about my Token Cards?

You do not have to tell your opponent what token cards you have nor about their effects. A simple [These are my Token Cards], [I'll be using Token Cards] will suffice.

Is information about how many Token Cards I have open to my opponent?

Yes, it is. However, as with your deck/Digi-Egg decks, whether you decide to tell your opponent of this is your choice.

Can I use Tokens with differing designs for the same type of Token? (e.g. using both the special [Familiar] that came with the BT22 Box, and a Blank Token of [Familiar]

Yes, you can.

If I want to use both Token Cards and Index Cards at the same time, can I put them both outside the game area?

Yes, you can. Both cards are placed outside the game area.

During battle, can you check the information on your Token Cards at any time?

Yes, a player can check their own Token Cards at any time they like. The order of your Token Cards is also up to you.

During battle, if I activate an ability that uses Token Cards, but I don't have any token cards left, does that mean I can't use any more Token Cards?

No. If you wish to prepare more Token Cards after the game has started, you may prepare them so long as you have a Judge accompanying you. However, please be aware that you may receive a light penalty (warning etc.).

Can I change the number of Token Cards prepared between rounds of BO3 (First to two)?

No, you can't. Please prepare everything you need, in the amounts you need them, before the first game.
If you wish to prepare more Token Cards after the game has started, you may prepare them so long as you have a Judge accompanying you. However, please be aware that you may receive a light penalty (warning etc.).

In cases where a Token Card has an【On Deletion】effect, when that Token has been deleted and returned to the outside of the game, will that 【On Deletion】 effect activate?

Yes, it will. On deletion, that card will be treated as though it was placed in the trash. The card itself will be returned to the Token Card pile.

In cases where a Token Card has an【On Deletion】effect, when that Token has been deleted, will that 【On Deletion】effect be pending activation outside the game area?

No, it will be pending activation in the trash. Only the【On Deletion】effect will be pending activation from the trash, while the Token Card itself will be placed outside the game area.
The Token Card that was placed outside the game area itself will not be treated as having an effect that is pending activation.

When a Digimon is placed as the bottom digivolution card of a different Digimon or Tamer via an effect, can I place a Token Card as the bottom digivolution card?

Yes, you can. However, depending on the rule of the Token Card, that card won't be placed at the bottom but instead returned to outside the game.

For effects like [By returning 1 Digimon to your hand], can I choose a Token Card as the target and, while returning it to outside the game area rather than my hand, still satisfy the conditions for the effect to activate?

Yes, you can. While the Token Card itself is placed outside the game area, the Token Card will be treated as though it was returned to your hand thus activating the effect.

For effects like [Return 1 Digimon to your hand], can I choose a Token as the target and, while returning it to outside the game area rather than my hand, still satisfy the conditions for the effect to activate?

Yes, it can. Even in cases where a Token Card is returned to outside the game area, it will satisfy the conditions of [If you returned a card by this effect].

For effects like [Return 1 Digimon to your hand], can I choose a Token as the target and, while returning it to outside the game area rather than my hand, still satisy the condition of [when a card is added to a hand] effect?

No, it can't. As the card itself would not be returned to your hand, the cards in your hand would not have been added to, therefore meaning you cannot activate this [when a card is added to a hand] effect.
